Purpose of A11yCraft

A11yCraft has been developed as part of a PhD study into web accessibility. The aim is to investigate ways to help web developers to address the most common issues in web accessibility.

This framework will be focused on the following Web Content Accessibility Guidelines criteria:

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content
  • 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
  • 1.4.1 Use of Color
  • 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
  • 1.4.4 Resize Text
  • 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks
  • 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context)
  • 2.4.7 Focus Visible
  • 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions
  • 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

Only the elements that apply to websites will be addressed in this framework. These success criteria may have additional requirements if you are working with videos, PDFs, mobile applications, or other formats.

The technical requirements and principles presented here are drawn from established accessibility standards and research papers. The contribution of A11yCraft lies not in producing new accessibility rules, but in the way existing guidance has been structured, simplified, and presented to support practical use by developers. Where appropriate, links are provided to WCAG and related resources for further detail.
